Church Extension

St John's, Ranmoor Grade II*

The brief for this project required that we address two principal issues that confronted the PCC and congregation of St John's.

The first of these was brought about by the evolving role  the church plays in the social and spiritual life of the congregation and its desire to remains an active and valued component of the wider local community and city of Sheffield as a whole.

Secondly, in addition to changing uses within the church there were a number of items associated with the long term maintenance of the building's fabric which need to be addressed.

Through a series of contemporary interventions we were able to provide new choir practice and vestry accommodation as well as a kitchen, WC's and new childrens' play space.

The new build construction is largely subterranean allowing the soft landscape of the churchyard to flow over extension with little visual impact to the site context.
